NOC Interview: Chris Redd of ‘Saturday Night Live’

Chris Redd is humbled by the company he shares, being only one of 20 other Black players in SNL’s storied history. What he hopes to leave behind at the end of his career, though, is beyond comedy. The Chicago native has been deeply involved in giving back to the Chicago community, helping raise millions for charities like the The Anthony Rizzo Laugh Off For Cancer, The Chris Redd & Friends Charity Concert, and also through the Covid-19 Protestor’s relief fund that he founded. Chris also serves on the board of directors of Poverty Alleviation Chicago.

Baron Vaughn Talks ‘Wild Life,’ 2020, and ‘Tales from the Hood’

Baron Vaughn graduated from Boston University’s theatre program and immediately went on to the Williamstown Theatre Festival. That same year he was cast in Drowning Crow with Alfre Woodard on Broadway. He was also featured in Damn Yankees at the NY City Center with Jane Krakowski and Sean Hayes. His television/film credits include Grace and Frankie, Girls, Superstore, Arrested Development, Cloverfield, and Black Dynamite. He is also the voice of Tom Servo on Mystery Science Theatre 3000 for Netflix.

How to Break Into TV Comedy Writing with Grace Nkenge Edwards

Grace Nkenge Edwards is a writer, actor, and producer who has both written for and performed on MTV’s Decoded, Inside Amy Schumer on Comedy Central, and is currently a writer on MTV’s Untitled Nicole Byer Project. She co-writes and performs in a monthly show with her sketch team The Heavenly Creatures. She has an MFA in Screenwriting from Columbia University, a BFA in Acting from the University of Michigan, and has taught television writing at NYU.

I had the pleasure of meeting Grace at Columbia where I was acting in her screenwriting class taught by one of my favorite playwrights, Israel Horowitz. Since then, Grace has created a TV writing career that many creatives only dream about. How did she do it? With perseverance, preparation, and well… grace. Check out my interview with her below.

It’s a Draw with Natalie Kim Debuts in One Week

I am so stoked to announce a new video series we Nerds will be bringing to you dear readers. My friend, the New York City-based actress/writer/artist Natalie Kim has a new — and awesome — YouTube show called It’s a Draw with Natalie Kim that will be debuting exactly one week from today. You may recognize Natalie from her other web series including Super Twins, the comedic web series about fraternal superheroes, and the indie comic review show Inked TV.

Natalie is also part of the SIUniverse fam since her story “Ching Shih: Queen of Pirates” (with art by Robin Ha) was featured in Shattered.

On It’s a Draw, Natalie will interview comedians, cartoonists, and YouTubers — all while drawing at the same time. The show is officially part of the Channel Frederator network, and we’ll be bringing you the show here at The Nerds of Color every Thursday starting on January 16.
