Top 15 DC Characters Jason Momoa Could Play in Man of Steel 2

by J. Lamb and Jenn

Earlier today, Keith posted a strong plea for Jason Momoa — who is currently in negotiations to join the cast of Man of Steel 2to play the role of Lobo. Keith’s not alone; the internet rumour mill has been spinning full-force since yesterday’s announcement, with plenty of speculation about whom Momoa might play from Doomsday to, well… Doomsday.

After the jump, here are 15 other DC superheroes Jason Momoa could bring to life in Man of Steel 2.

1. Hawkman

Carter Hall. Hawkman. Walking tank. Looks great in gold. Perfect character for the man who was Khal Drogo.

2. Captain Marvel

CaptainMarvel

Sure, Captain Marvel is a bratty kid trapped in the body of an adult. But he’s also DC’s substitute Superman. And, let’s face it — if we can’t stop Henry Cavill from wearing the S-shield, this is the next best thing.

3. Orion

Orion

Don’t you want to see Jason Momoa ride a space-age Segway? We know we do!

4. Martian Manhunter

MMH

Even though Jason Momoa picked up Dothraki in Game of Thrones really easily, he was rarely called upon to say anything. The same is true of Martian Manhunter. Both are the strong silent type.

5. Red Tornado

RedTornado

Hey, if he can look good in all green as the Martian Manhunter, he could look equally good in red.

6. Green Lantern (Simon Baz)

GL

A relative newcomer to the DC Universe, Simon Baz offers diversity that any future JLA project would sorely need. It would be nice to see a live-action Justice League movie tackle real-world national security paranoia. (Yes, Momoa would be racially cross-cast here).

7. Captain Atom

CaptainAtom

Speaking of national security paranoia, who else wants to see the entire East Coast get demolished when Jason Momoa sneezes?

8. Wildcat

Wildcat

Wildcat never met a problem he couldn’t solve with a good left hook. Neither did Khal Drogo.

9. Aquaman

Aquaman

Khal Drogo was the king of the Dothraki Sea. Aquaman is the king of the actual sea. Both are oh-so-pretty. You know it works. Shut up.

10. Metamorpho

metamorpho

Rex Mason doesn’t know why he exists. And we don’t know why Jason Momoa is in Man of Steel 2, either. Hey, synergy.

11. Blue Devil

BlueDevil

Joke? What joke? Of course this list is serious.

12. Elongated Man

Elongated Man

Hey, it’s a chance for Jason Momoa to play against type…?

13. Etrigan  (with Benedict Cumberbatch as Jason Blood)

Etrigan

Etrigan unleashes hell in the streets.

When done, Jason Blood wails and moans.

Jason Momoa can barbeque human meat;

Benedict Cumberbatch wants tea and scones.

14. Aztek

Aztek’s got everything: state-of-the-art technology, killer abs, a starfish helmet. This could be the role of Momoa’s career.

… and last but not least….

15. Vibe

Because, come on. You know you would pay to see this movie.

But in all seriousness…

Here are Jenn and J. Lamb’s predictions of whom Jason Momoa might actually play in the upcoming Man of Steel 2.

Jenn’s Prediction: Magog

Magog

Magog is a lesser known Superman villain, but one who is insidious, complex, and entirely human. Over the last several years, Magog has been cast as both villain and hero. In Kingdom Come, he pitted himself directly against Superman in his campaign to counteract the growing metahuman community. Not only does Magog have great potential for a compelling live-action interpretation, but Jason Momoa has both the aesthetic and the gravitas to play him.

J. Lamb’s Prediction: Vandal Savage
VandalSavage

Man of Steel 2 will have the entire Trinity at some point: Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman. Assembling all this comic might requires an amazing villain, one who can out-think and out-fight our heroes; but someone we haven’t seen before. Vandal Savage fits the bill: he’s been around since forever, he’s as intelligent as he is devious, and one can imagine his character in control of the wealth and influence necessary to combat a budding Justice League. Think of a cross between Ra’s al Ghul and Lex Luthor, with bigger pectorals and a taste for fine wines. Further, Jason Momoa has the Cro-Magnon look that the role requires. I think it’s a logical fit.
