After years toiling in development hell — along with Iron Man and Captain America, Ant-Man was one of the studio’s first announced self-financed properties — two directors and several insect-sized teases, Marvel Studios’ latest attempt to dominate the moviegoing world with more C- and D-list superheroes was finally revealed during ABC’s debut of Agent Carter and it’s possible the House of Ideas has done it again. After the break, we run down a few of the things that caught our eye as we wait for Ant-Man to become the latest Marvel hero to emerge from the summer blockbuster season as a household name.

1.) It’s only shown in flashes, but featured this prominently in the teaser, you can count on seeing plenty of Paul Rudd’s lovable, dry humor. If fully realized, it might play as well to audiences as Robert Downey, Jr.’s bemused sarcasm. Ant-Man doesn’t have the ceiling of an Iron Man, but Rudd might just be charismatic enough to make this one another surprise a la Guardians of the Galaxy. It won’t be that good, but it won’t be Green Lantern either.

2.) Why is Michael Douglas channeling his Liberace? If you’ve seen the Liberace movie Behind the Candelabra, it’s really all you can think of when you hear that voice.

3.) Evangeline Lilly’s dragon lady bowl-cut isn’t working for us. The wig covers her elven ears.

4.) Michael Peña is always a good sign.

5.) Rudd looks Brad-Pitt in-Fight Club/Snatch-era-ripped. It’s great. Always a charmer, now he’s got some serious abs to keep ’em swooning. His trim, slender physique definitely suits his frame better than bulking up would have.
