So that happened.
This morning, I was a guest on msnbc’s The Rundown with Jose Diaz-Balart to talk about the debut of Marvel’s Silk series and diversity in comics in general. Check it out after the break.
PS, I’m totally aware that Silk is actually not the first Asian American superhero and tried to convey that in the interview. Hell, I even had them plug my book that had tons of Asian American superheroes, after all!

Very Interesting to see how people believe that this is the first Asian-American heroin. Throughout the years that comics have been around it should be pretty easy to see that there have been others like this.
In the last decade, the comic book market grew 75% in fans and independent titles. It’s only in this last decade that we’ve seen brand new generations of comic book readers, primarily focusing on newer titles that hasn’t seen much diversity until the last 2-3 years or so. It’s not hard to blame them for not seeing much diversity – much less being able to properly identify with the characters in the story, personifying/emulating if you will.
