‘Captain Marvel’ First Look and Setting Up the Future of the MCU

UPDATE (9/18/18): The Captain Marvel trailer is here!

Previous story continues below…

Captain Marvel will be the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s first female fronted solo film. The title character is played by Oscar winning actress, Brie Larson. Today, September 5, Entertainment Weekly gave us a first look at the upcoming film, and it’s pretty marvelous.

Captain Marvel will be set in the ’90s and is going to avoid giving us an origin story like most heroes get on their film debuts. Carol Danvers (Captain Marvel) will already have her powers and has left Earth when we first meet her in the film. She will be working for SpaceForce alongside Jude Law’s Mar-vell and Gemma Chan’s Minn-Evra. However, events on Earth will bring Captain Marvel back down to Earth to fight against the Skrulls, a shape shifting alien race, lead by Talos played by Ben Mendelsohn.

Personally, Captain Marvel is my most anticipated film of the MCU to date. These first look photos have made me even more excited and has also made me curious about what this will mean for the Marvel Cinematic Universe going forward. One of the photos gives us a look at Lashana Lynch’s character. Lashana Lynch will be playing Marie “Photon” Rambeau who is Carol’s best friend from the Air Force that is a single mom. Marie is the mother of Marvel Comics hero, Photon aka Monica Rambeau that most fans originally thought who Lashana had been cast as.

With the introduction to the Rambeaus we will be getting more female heroes in the future of the MCU. Obviously, Monica Rambeau will be one of them which will most likely be a grown up Monica either in Avengers 4 or post Avengers 4. It would be nice to see Monica and Carol also being friends down the line in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. And with the introduction of Carol Danvers, one can only hope that Kamala Khan (aka Ms. Marvel) isn’t that far off! I’m hoping we will get to see Jessica Drew (Spider-Woman) who is Carol’s best friend in the comics too.

What female characters from the comics do you hope will appear in Phase 4 of the MCU? What are your thoughts on the first look at Captain Marvel? Sound off in the comments below.

Captain Marvel stars Brie Larson as Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel, Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, Clark Gregg as Agent Coulson, Gemma Chan as Minn-Erva, Lashana Lynch as Marie Rambeau, Lee Pace as Ronan the Accuser, and Ben Mendelsohnn as Talos.

Captain Marvel soars into theaters March 8, 2018.
