Well, that was unexpected.

In a conference call with reporters, Disney CEO Bob Iger revealed a second live action Star Wars series will be coming to Disney’s long-anticipated streaming service. Rogue One star Diego Luna will be reprising the role of Cassian Andor in a series set before the events (obviously) of the Star Wars Story that grossed over a billion dollars in 2016. The series follows The Mandalorian from Jon Favreau as Lucasfilm looks to expand the Galaxy Far, Far Away to (live action) television.

“Going back to the Star Wars universe is very special for me,” Luna told StarWars.com. “I have so many memories of the great work we did together and the relationships I made throughout the journey. We have a fantastic adventure ahead of us, and this new exciting format will give us the chance to explore this character more deeply.”

If a Cassian show is successful, let’s hope Disney can convince Riz Ahmed to return for a series based on Bodhi Rook or at least give us a “Guardians of the Whills” series starring Space Uncles, Donnie Yen and Jiang Wen! No word on whether the series will bring back Alan Tudyk as K-2SO, but c’mon. It has to, right?

Also, buried in the lede is that the streaming service  will be called Disney+ and pronounced “Disney Plus,” I imagine. Iger also confirmed Marvel Studios first foray into live action television (sorry, Netflix) with a Loki series starring Tom Hiddleston. No word on the rumored Scarlet Witch or Falcon/Bucky series though.

Production on the Cassian Andor series will commence in 2019 with a release date still TBD.
