New ‘Birds of Prey’ Trailer is Not So Quiet

We are less than a month away from the premiere of Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) so it seems like the right time to drop a new trailer. Fortunately, our friends at Warner Bros. agrees.

Before we go any further, you should know that I’ve been a fan of Björk ever since I caught a random segment on MTV’s 120 Minutes about The Sugarcubes when I was in grade school. Some time later, I bought a used cassette of their debut album Life’s Too Good, and was immediately smitten by their frontwoman’s big time sensuality. Full disclosure, I thought Björk was Asian the first time I saw her on television, and back in the late ’80s, you didn’t see many Asian people on MTV! Then I realized that’s just human behaviour.

When she went solo in 1993, Debut was on constant rotation in my Discman. Two years later, her follow-up Post joined in (good thing I had a multi-disc CD player by then). So when the strains of “It’s Oh So Quiet” kick in at the 20-second mark in the trailer, and given how excited I’ve been for this movie from jump, I just knew WB made this trailer especially for me! Like it was my birthday or something!

However, when the first lyrics hit, I was in a cold sweat. Something just was off. Björk Guðmundsdóttir’s vocals are so distinct, ya know. Apparently, the song in the trailer (and eventual soundtrack) is by someone named Lucy Woodward. Of course, “It’s Oh So Quiet” is a cover of a cover that’s nearly 80 years old, but still. You don’t get more iconic than this:

Anyway, the trailer is dope. It shines some more light on the Birds themselves, and you get to see Ewan McGregor in a black mask.

We don’t have to wait too much longer to see what Cathy Yan and Christina Hodson have cooked up. Birds of Prey hits theaters February 7, 2020!
