NOC Interview: Jason Momoa and Isabela Merced on Netflix’s ‘Sweet Girl’

Jason Momoa and Isabela Merced star in Sweet Girl as the father-daughter duo of Ray and Rachel Cooper. Momoa also serves as a producer of the new film. Sweet Girl will begin streaming August 20 on Netflix, so mark your calendars!

Devoted family man Ray Cooper, vows justice against the pharmaceutical company responsible for pulling a potentially life-saving drug from the market just before his wife dies from cancer. But when his search for the truth leads to a deadly encounter that puts Ray and his daughter Rachel in harm’s way, Ray’s mission turns into a quest for vengeance in order to protect the only family he has left.

Momoa is best known for his role as Aquaman in the title character’s first solo outing, which has become the most successful DC title of all time, as well as Justice League. He can next be seen starring in season 2 of Apple TV’s drama series, See, which premieres on August 27. Momoa will also star in the upcoming Warner Bros. feature Dune. Other notable credits includes Netflix’s action/adventure series Frontier as well as HBO’s Game of Thrones. Momoa appeared in The Bad Batch as well as co-wrote, co-produced, directed, and starred in Road to Palom.

Merced is an actress, singer, dancer, and songwriter. Recently, the actress lent her voice to Spirit Untamed and starred in Netflix’s Let It Snow. Other notable work includes starring in Dora: And the Lost City of Gold, Instant Family, Sicario: Day of the Soldado, and Transformers: The Last Knight. Prior credits include Middle School: The Worst Years of My Life, Legends of the Hidden Temple: The Movie, Nut Job 2: Nutty by Nature, as well as Nickelodeon’s series, 100 Things To Do Before High School. She was honored with NALIP’s 2018 “Lupe Ontiveros Latino Rising Star” Award, Cinemacon’s 2017 “Rising Star of the Year” Award, as well as Imagen’s 2016 “Best Young Actress in Television” Award. Merced made her debut on Broadway with the revival of Evita and her national and international television debut as a singer in The Next Big Thing New York. Her first feature film lead role was in The House that Jack Built. The actress also originated the lead role of Wendy in the musical Fly. After kicking off her career as a solo musician with her Latin Pop single, “Papi,” she released her new EP, The Better Half of Me, in 2020 as well as “Don’t Go.”
