Padma Lakshmi’s ‘Taste the Nation: Holiday Edition’ is Coming to Hulu in November

Taste the Nation is famed cookbook author and TV personality Padma Lakshmi’s documentary series that highlights the American food of various communities of color and immigrants to the US. It’s an incisive and moving look at how BIPOC peoples all around the country have influenced and defined the nebulous and all-encompassing “American” cuisine, which is really just many cuisines from the communities highlighted in this series and beyond.

From Native peoples to the Gullah Geechee, to Mexican Americans, Iranian Americans, Indian Americans, and more, Padma conveys a consistent passion for highlighting these communities and giving them the space to tell their stories, most often through cooking amazing looking food.

We can preview here on The Nerds of Color that Taste the Nation will have a four-part Holiday Special that will explore how BIPOC and other communities observe Christmas, Nochebuena (Latin American, Filipino, and Spanish Christmas Eve), Hanukkah, Thanksgiving, Seollal (Korean New Year), and more.

With this special, Padma will aim to highlight the reasons behind the traditions for each of these holidays, the meaning behind the food served, showing audiences how that food is made, and overall just making audiences eagerly anticipate the holidays even more. Simply watching this trailer was so appetizing, and I can’t wait to watch more of this fantastic series.

Here’s the summary from Hulu:
