Yesterday, Studio Ghibli, the iconic Japanese animation house founded by Hayao Miyazaki, set the internet ablaze when it cryptically tweeted a video of the Lucasfilm logo morphing into its own studio card.
Speculation ran wild. Was Miyazaki coming out of retirement (again) to direct a Star Wars project akin to last year’s Star Wars: Visions? Was an entire sub genre of Ghibli/Star Wars fan art about to become canon? Would Totoro start showing up in cantina backgrounds moving forward?
Well, we just got an answer. Studio Ghibli will be celebrating the third anniversary of The Mandalorian by premiering an animated short called Zen — Grogu and Dust Bunnies on Disney+ on November 12, which is also the streamer’s launch anniversary.
The hand-drawn, animated short that crosses over Baby Yoda with the Soot Sprites from My Neighbor Totoro is directed by Katsuya Kondo and will feature music by Mandalorian composer Ludwig Göransson.
