‘Ginny & Georgia’ Director James Genn Talks Season 2 and More

It’s hard to believe it’s already been nearly two months since Ginny & Georgia returned for its sophomore season on Netflix. Season 2 quickly followed up on the first season’s success — by the first week of February, the title had been viewed for a whopping 504.77 million hours. It’s still going strong, remaining on Netflix’s Top 10 global list for English TV shows.

‘Turning Red’ Finds Heart and Humor in the Messiness of Growing Up

Coming-of-age films are defined by what it means for their young characters to grow up. And, like the experience itself, no one story about growing up is the same as the next. It takes a special kind of film to capture the growing pains of a young person as they transition into adulthood. Turning Red, Pixar’s heartfelt and hilarious film, examines that journey through the lens of a 13-year-old Chinese Canadian girl who finds out that growing up may be a smelly beast — literally.

‘Turning Red’ Reimagines the Coming-of-Age Story Through Cultural Specificity

Pixar’s Turning Red is a film unlike any other. Directed by Domee Shi, the film centers on Mei Lee (Rosalie Chiang), a 13-year-old Chinese Canadian girl torn between being the dutiful daughter to her mother (Sandra Oh) and navigating the chaos of adolescence. But her life gets turned upside-down when she discovers she turns into a giant red panda if she gets too excited.

Kristin Kreuk on Ending ‘Burden of Truth’ and 20 Years of ‘Smallville’

For the last four seasons, Kristin Kreuk has been playing Joanna Chang on the hit Canadian series Burden of Truth. While the series wrapped its run back in March on the CBC, the show has been playing to American audiences on The CW, a network that Kristin is very familiar with, having played Lana Lang for seven seasons on Smallville.

I got the chance to speak to Kristin about wrapping her show, the importance of representation, and what it’s like to be back on the network she helped launch.

From Amazon to Zombie Hunter: Samantha Win Reflects on Her Career

Samantha Win is blowing up. It’s only May, but it’s already been quite a year for the actress / martial artist / stunt performer / Amazonian warrior / zombie hunter. In March, she wrote, produced, and starred in a genre-bending shortfilm called Unwelcome. She can currently be seen on HBO Max as Euboea in Zack Snyder’s Justice League. On May 14, her latest Snyder-collab, Army of the Dead opens in theaters nationwide — making it Netflix’s widest release ever — before coming to the streamer the following week on May 21.

On ‘Kung Fu,’ Yvonne Chapman is Making Evil Look Good

When Yvonne Chapman first received the call that she was cast in the reboot of The CW’s Kung Fu, she was over the moon and immediately called her husband and friends. It all happened so quickly for the Calgary native. When Chapman first auditioned for the role of the villainous Zhilan — an ageless Guardian who is determined to collect all the mythical swords that, if in the wrong hands, could destroy the world — she immediately fell in love with the character.

“The entire time I was like ‘oh man, I really hope I get this,’” Chapman revealed on the phone with The Nerds of Color last week. “I remembered in that time with my friends and my husband that I [had a] feel in my gut. I just felt like it was really right for me. It was just hoping that other people felt the same.”

Sandra Oh is Not Your Model Minority

I’m not here to say why Sandra Oh, the first woman of Asian descent nominated for an Emmy as a leading actress in a drama, should have won and that she was robbed. I’m not here to pit her against the other women in the category, and I’m not here to come for Claire Foy. Actually, I love The Crown, and I love Foy in it. Congrats, Claire and thanks for the Sandra shout-out.
