‘In the Heights’ Trailer Celebrates Life in Washington Heights

Warner Bros. has released the trailer for the anticipated musical film In the Heights, and it does not disappoint.

Directed by Jon M. Chu, In the Heights brings back Lin-Manuel Miranda’s score and a screenplay by Quiara Alegría Hudes, the musical’s original book writer. Fans of the beloved Tony Award-winning Broadway musical will recognize the music, scenes, and set dressing in the new trailer. It’s also fantastic to see some of the original cast members make an appearance in the trailer — including Miranda himself as the Piragua Guy and Christopher Jackson, who originated the role of Benny on Broadway. We should be expecting more Easter eggs in the film for fans of the stage musical.

Check it out below. What do you see that we may have missed?

Lights up on Washington Heights… The scent of a cafecito caliente hangs in the air just outside of the 181st Street subway stop, where a kaleidoscope of dreams rallies this vibrant and tight-knit community. At the intersection of it all is the likable, magnetic bodega owner Usnavi (Anthony Ramos), who saves every penny from his daily grind as he hopes, imagines and sings about a better life.

In the Heights stars Anthony Ramos as Usnavi, Corey Hawkins as Benny, Melissa Barrera as Vanessa, Leslie Grace as Nina, Olga Merediz as Abuela Claudia, Daphne Rubin-Vega as Daniela, and Jimmy Smits as Kevin Rosario.

In the Heights premieres on June 18 on HBO Max.
