‘The Falcon and The Winter Soldier’ Star Anthony Mackie Wants In on the ‘Blade’ Movies

Anthony Mackie is very happy to have been given the chance to explore Sam “Falcon” Wilson’s storyline further in Disney+’s Marvel’s Falcon and The Winter Soldier. Being from Louisiana himself, Mackie was excited to explore Sam’s hometown.

“Because that’s the best state in the union,” laughed Mackie during The Falcon and The Winter Soldier global press conference this morning. “And, New Orleans is the best city in the world.”

Mackie did request that Sam eat crawfish on camera, but was told no. But, still, Mackie did like how Sam Wilson originally was a hustler from Harlem, but as African American culture evolved, so did the Falcon.

He believes giving Sam this series to explore his character will be better for the audience. With the death of Iron Man — or as Mackie describes it “since Kevin Feige killed Iron Man,” fans should be able to see the newer characters like Falcon a backstory, and life after the Blip.

“Stan Lee evolved [Sam] in the comic book into different incarnations of themselves,” said Mackie. “So I’m excited for everyone to see the new and improved Sam Wilson.”

Of course, the current Avengers and heroes from the MCU are mentioned in the series, but Mackie made it known to Feige what Universe he wants to enter the most.

“I would really, Kevin, like to spend some time in Blade world,” Mackie said with enthusiasm. He recalled a time when Spider-Man 2 was being shot in Harlem and he saw actress Joy Bryant in a scene with one line, “It’s Spider-Man!” Mackie immediately called his agent and demanded he’d have one line in one of these movies.

Sebastian Stan jumped in and joked, “It’s She-Hulk!”

“I want to be the [Joy Bryant] of She-Hulk!,” jokingly demanded Mackie.

With Blade being part of the MCU, maybe Mackie could make a cameo in the film as if Blade (Mahershala Ali) needs to get connected with the Avengers. Mackie did appear in Ant-Man and could be taking up the Captain America mantle. So, anything is possible.

Feige, who was also at the press conference, smiled and began taking notes.

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier premieres on March 19 on Disney+.

Marvel Studios’ The Falcon and The Winter Soldier stars Anthony Mackie as Sam Wilson aka The Falcon, and Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes aka The Winter Soldier. The pair, who came together in the final moments of Avengers: Endgame, team up on a global adventure that tests their abilities — and their patience. Directed by Kari Skogland with Malcolm Spellman serving as head writer, the series also stars Daniel Brühl as Zemo, Emily VanCamp as Sharon Carter, and Wyatt Russell as John Walker.
