‘Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon Eternal The Movie’ is Coming to Netflix

It’s a dream come true! Sailor Moon Eternal is finally here.

Watching Sailor Moon Crystal on Hulu and rewatching Classic last year got me through the early days of the pandemic. The show I’ve been in love with since I was nine years old looks different these days: the rose-colored view of nostalgia for the equal parts iconic and disastrous DiC/Cloverway adaptation will never leave me. It’s the version that introduced ten amazing Sailor Scouts and a whole host of other awesome characters to North America, and to be honest, the world. That was the show I needed then. The proper redub of Classic and the brand new Sailor Moon Crystal (more true to the manga source material) were what I needed when the world shut down and I was alone in my apartment unable to see anyone in real life.

Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon Eternal The Movie (in two parts!) continues the plot from Sailor Moon Crystal and adapts the manga Dreams arc (corresponding with season 4 of Classic) which is all about pure dreams, loneliness, hope, and saving the world with your friends. If that doesn’t represent a lot of the last year, I don’t know what does. I’m so excited to watch this as people get vaccinated and the world begins to safely open up again.

After a year of twisted circus acts sending nightmares across the world, Eternals the Movie on Netflix feels like the shining Golden and Legendary Silver Crystals saving the galaxy once again.

“Like so many others around the world, I trace my love for anime back to watching Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon when I was a toddler — pictures of me in Usagi’s Bun Head have become a family treasure. It’s no surprise that these characters and tales about love and justice still touch the hearts of so many fans around the world,” said Ema Hirayama, Manager, Content Acquisition, Netflix. “It’s a dream come true for all of us at Netflix to have Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon Eternal The Movie join our expansive anime slate and to share this incredible story with fans around the world.”

“We have long been hoping to bring Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon Eternal The Movie to people around the world since the initial release in Japan,” said Fumio Osano, Editor-in-Chief, Comic IP Development Team for Kondansha. “Today, we are excited to bring these movies to our fans through Netflix. Amidst these challenging times, it is our greatest pleasure for viewers to feel courage and hope by watching this story about love and justice.”
