British Romantic Comedy Series ‘Starstruck’ Coming to HBO Max

Have you ever had a dream that you met a famous hot actor and instantly become inseparable?

Well, in the new HBO Max series Starstruck, Jessie (played by comedian Rose Matafeo), a millennial living in East London juggling two dead end jobs and navigating the awkward morning-after-the-night-before when she discovers the complications of accidentally sleeping with famous movie star Tom (Nikesh Patel). What she thought would become an amusing anecdote soon turns into something more, as the couple realize they can’t keep away from each other. The ensemble cast also includes Sindhu Vee, Emma Sidi, and Minnie Driver.

In the trailer, we see Jessie is your everyday woman just trying to live her life and ends up sleeping with an actor, who happens to be super famous. Instead of just being a notch on the bedpost, Jessie and Tom actually enjoy each other’s company. Of course, the politics of “Hollywood” comes to play on the expectations of who a famous star should be with, but it’s nice to watch him build something normal with Jessie. It also allows us to dream too.

Co-written by Matafeo and Alice Snedden, the series first premiered on BBC3 with raved reviews. Produced by Avalon (Breeders, Everything’s Gonna Be Okay, Last Week Tonight With John Oliver), Starstruck is executive produced by Rose Matafeo, Jon Thoday, Richard Allen-Turner, and Rob Aslett. Toby Welch is series producer. Karen Maine (Yes, God, Yes) directed the six episode season.

Starstruck debuts June 10 on HBO Max.
