Michael Vlamis plays Michael Guerin in The CW’s hit series Roswell, New Mexico. The show first premiered back in 2019 and is finishing its third season. The season finale, episode 3×13, airs Monday at 8:00 PM. Roswell, New Mexico has also been renewed for a fourth season!
SEASON FINALE — The ultimate showdown with Jones (Nathan Dean) is finally here and Liz (Jeanine Mason) must trust herself if she is going to the save the man she loves.
I had the chance to ask the actor about what playing the character of Michael means to him, the fan response, his favorite aspect of Malex’s relationship, what fans can expect from season four, the season three finale, and more. Keep reading to find out everything he shared!
Your character is definitely a fan favorite, what has playing him taught you?
Michael Vlamis: It’s taught me that I am enough. I believe, as an actor or any type of artist, you cannot reach your full potential until you’re able to fully expose yourself. When I first started acting, I always tried to be what I thought the character was or what the writers wanted. Now, I understand that I do not have to be anything other than myself. That doesn’t mean I don’t morph from character to character, but it does mean that I am fully comfortable exposing myself through each character. What feels right for me under the given circumstances of each character, is right– for me. And that’s a beautiful feeling.
What does the fan response to Michael mean to you and is there something you hope fans learn from him?
The fan response has taught me that all the work, struggle, and adversity I faced to get to the point where I got to play Michael Guerin, was worth it. While, yes, the fan response is based off great writing, directing, and leadership from our showrunner, Chris Hollier, it also has to do a lot with what I put into it and that is such a rewarding feeling. If fans learn anything from my character, I hope it’s that it’s okay to be yourself. We all struggle, we all have our doubts, we all feel small sometimes, but hey, that’s okay. You just gotta embrace yourself and keep doing your best. Guerin is a mess at times, but he never gives up and that’s most important.
You’re also part of a fan favorite ship, what is your personal favorite aspect of Malex?
Tyler Blackburn. He’s a gem. Working with him is everything. He makes my job so much easier. Malex stands for hope in my eyes and for not being afraid to let the world know who you are. I’m so proud of the fact that we inspire so many people out there to be themselves and honest with their loved ones.
What did you enjoy most about getting to do a time jump in season three?
Pretending Covid was over! Ha, I’m kind of kidding, but at the same time, it was so nice to go to work and exist in a world where Covid was over. Obviously, when they yell cut, it’s back on, but for those few minutes the camera is rolling, everything was normal. Okay, not normal, but you get it.
Which of Michael’s relationships are your personal favorites? Are there any dynamic you’d like to explore further for him?
Tyler, of course, but I also love his relationship with Lily and Jeanine. I’ve always gravitated towards strong women and there aren’t many more badass than those two. I feel loved, supported, and challenged when I work with them.
When you look back at filming season three, is there a specific memory that stands out to you as a really special moment?
Maybe the final two episodes. The show put me through the wringer, I got my ass kicked. Guerin loves getting his ass kicked, haha! When you’re on set for 14 hours getting tossed all over the place, you look around and think, “How did I get here?” How did I get this wonderful opportunity to do what I love? And that feeling, makes you want to get up and get tossed again or in my case, stabbed or stapled again, ha! The hard work is all worth it when you think about what it took to get to where you are.
What can you tease in regards to season four?
Michael Guerin learns more about his home planet and he absolutely loves every second of it.
What was your reaction when you found out the storyline or read the scripts for the fourth season?
I was excited to welcome some new characters! The latest character additions are really adding to Michael’s desire to discover who he truly is and where he comes from.
Are there any dream storylines you have for Michael that you’d love to see done on the show in the future?
Honestly, no. Michael Guerin gets all the storylines! I think back on one of my favorite films, GOOD WILL HUNTING, and how Mat Damon’s character was so layered and got to do it all. I feel that way for Guerin. I’m very lucky.
