It’s Black History Month!

You know what that means, many studios and advertisements will be elevating Black voices for the entire month. But, what about the rest of the year? Rather than only uplifting voices for 28 days, it seems like many companies are listening and starting to do something about it.

HBO Max has announced their Black History Month campaign with “More Than a Month,” which highlights “the streamer’s distinct and comprehensive slate of content that elevates the unique voices, timeless stories and powerful performances of the Black community.” Since the campaign is called “More Than a Month,” HBO Max have announced they’re keeping the Black Voices collection active and updated throughout the year.

The collection will include programming from Black content creators and leads, including from Lovecraft Country, A Black Lady Sketch Show, Insecure, South Side, The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air Reunion, and That Damn Michael Che. There will also be documentaries and biopics that highlights civil rights icons, including Frederick Douglass: In Five Speeches and Dreamland: the Burning of Black Wall Street and Oscar Micheaux: The Superhero of Black Filmmaking. The Warner Bros. Streaming Exclusive film KIMI, starring Zoë Kravitz and debuting February 10, will also be a part of the collection.

The celebration will include Twitter Watch Parties, using their new social media destination — Scene in Black, with talent and a sampling of free titles from HBO Max and Black Voices. The Watch Parties will be for the month, but the handle will remain active in showcasing Black content from HBO Max.

Additionally, on February 3, HBO Max will debut the 2021 finalists of HBO’s Short Films Competition in partnership with the American Black Film Festival: Cracked, Mass Ave, Pure, The Snakes, and When the Sun Sets on Black Voices.

For those who don’t have HBO Max, the collection will offer a free sampling of the HBO Original documentary film, A Choice of Weapons: Gordon Parks as well as episode one of the documentary series Being Serena, season one, episode one of the HBO Original Insecure, documentary film King in the Wilderness, season two, episode one of Max Originals Love Life and season two, episode one of South Side.
