Gabriel Luna can be seen as Boro Polonia in Netflix’s newest action-comedy, Fubar. The series is now streaming globally.
A CIA Operative on the verge of retirement discovers a family secret. Forced to go back into the field for one last job, the series tackles universal family dynamics set against a global backdrop of spies, action, and humor.
“Arnold and I have the same team and he and I had worked together previously with Skydance on the last Terminator picture, and we were aware that he was doing this show,” the actor started to explain when I asked why the role stood out to him. “I just kind of jokingly kind of nudged him about it occasionally and he was like, ‘Oh no, we’ll find something for you.’ Then it came around and Santora had written this really great script, really great character. However, there may have been some reservations. For me, it’s important to play the hero or at least try to represent that in as many ways as I can. But you know, I always joke, I only play bad guys for Arnold. So yeah, and that was interesting, the fact that the character is villainous in every way but is highly motivated and also has — there are many reasons why he carries out the dastardly deeds that he does.”
He later told me, “I was really impressed with the spectacle and the sheer epicness of the action. I mean, it starts in the first episode. You don’t have to wait long and there’s some really, really great action set pieces that, I mean, to accomplish it the way we did in Toronto at the pace at which we were working was really, really impressive. So, my hats off to our VFX team and, of course, Billy Lucas, our stunt coordinator, JF as well, our fight coordinator, who was great. All the action is, I mean, blockbuster level action.”
We spoke about why the role was interesting to him, working with this incredible cast, adding in the family dynamic, the “blockbuster level” action, character inspirations, and more!
