‘Transformers’ Star Anthony Ramos Discusses POC Themes in ‘Rise of the Beasts’

This week, the Transformers return to the big screen in Transformers: Rise of the Beasts! And I have to say folks, this one truly is more than meets the eye. I personally dug the heck out of this movie. Part of the reason was the way director Steven J. Caple (Creed II) subtly brings up POC themes throughout the movie. And one of the others was its charismatic star Anthony Ramos!

Ramos is a huge favorite here at The Nerds of Color, as we’ve expressed time and time again our love for Hamilton and In the Heights. But this Friday, fans of Ramos will see his action hero side, as he suits up as Noah Diaz to fight along side Optimus Prime, Bumblebee, Mirage, and the Maximals against the forces of the evil Terrorcons. And boy is it a blast!

We were so lucky to get some time to sit with Ramos himself to talk about his love for the Transformers (particularly Beast Wars) as well as what he thought about the subtle POC messages bubbling underneath the surface of this action-packed blockbuster, that actually is the second best film in its franchise!

Take a look at what he had to say right here:

And don’t forget to catch Transformers: Rise of the Beasts only in theaters this Friday, June 9!
