Shawn Levy is wearing all the hats for Deadpool & Wolverine as director, writer, and producer. The film, which will be released in theaters on July 26, serves as Deadpool’s eagerly anticipated entrance into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but that’s not all — he’s bringing Wolverine along for the ride! It’s safe to say the MCU will never be the same.

Marvel Studios presents their most significant mistake to date—”Deadpool & Wolverine.” Alistless Wade Wilson toils away in civilian life. His days as the morally flexible mercenary, Deadpool, behind him. When his homeworld faces an existenFal threat, Wade must reluctantly suit-up again with an even more reluctantlier… reluctanter? Reluctantest? He must convince a reluctant Wolverine to—Fuck. Synopses are so fucking stupid.

“I mean, a lot of it I expected and it was as thrilling as I thought. You have access to the greatest toy box that a director could ever get, so that was a dream and when you see some of the surprises in the movie that somehow have not leaked and been spoiled, I think you will enjoy,” he expressed. “I learned how deeply intimate and meaningful this world is to fans around the world. I’ve been to four continents in the last 15 days and whether it was in China, Korea, Germany, Rio, or here in New York, what these characters and these decades of lore and legacy mean to people, it’s important. It’s emotional and it’s a part of their lives. And so, I now have — I think I always had a sense of it, but my respect for it and how sacred it feels to so many millions of people, that’s a beautiful thing and that’s a rare thing.”

We discussed how working on this project deepened his respect for the superhero genre, the story’s unexpected emotion, and his favorite memory with Peggy, aka Dogpool.
