Wicked: Part One is almost here! As one of the year’s most anticipated films, Universal released a new trailer, giving audiences a glimpse into the lives of Elphaba (Cynthia Erivo) and Glinda (Ariana Grande) and their magical friendship, which eventually turned into what we know from L. Frank Baum’s The Wizard of Oz.
Yet, in the story of Wicked, based on Gregory Maguire’s novel and award-winning Broadway musical, we meet the two young witches during their time in the magical school of Shiz University. Elphaba has always been misunderstood due to her green skin, but she learns her true power lies within her. Glinda, who has always been pretty and privileged, begins to discover her true self and eventually becomes “The Good Witch.”
Directed by Jon M. Chu, Wicked will be a spectacular musical, filled with music from the award-winning musical, along with new songs for the film adaptation. The film also stars Michelle Yeoh as Shiz University’s regal headmistress Madame Morrible; Jonathan Bailey as Fiyero, a roguish and carefree prince; Ethan Slater as Boq, an altruistic Munchkin student; Marissa Bode in her feature-film debut as Nessarose, Elphaba’s favored sister; and pop culture icon Jeff Goldblum as the legendary Wizard of Oz.
Wicked premieres on November 22 in theaters everywhere.
