Dust off those pencils, because KISS is back in session. Season 2 of Netflix’s XO, Kitty follows newly single “teen matchmaker” Kitty Song-Covey (Anna Cathcart) as she returns to Seoul, South Korea for a new semester and a fresh start.

But, of course, staying out of the drama won’t be as easy as she thinks — especially when new faces, new love triangles, and new family secrets test her and her friendships like never before.

The series is created by Jenny Han, with Matt Kaplan and showrunner Jessica O’Toole serving as executive producers. In addition to Cathcart, Season 2 stars Minyeong Choi (Dae), Gia Kim (Yuri), Sang Heon Lee (Min Ho), Anthony Keyvan (Q), Regan Aliyah (Juliana), and Peter Thurnwald (Alex). Audrey Huynh, Sasha Bhasin, and Joshua Lee are set to join the cast as new characters Stella, Praveena, and Jin, respectively. Netflix has also confirmed that Noah Centineo, who portrayed Peter Kavinsky in predecessor series To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before, will reprise his role in a highly-anticipated cameo.

“I am so excited for fans to see the relationships,” Cathcart tells The Nerds of Color. “There were so many moments during shooting where I would turn to Jessica, our showrunner, and be like, ‘They’re gonna freak!’ There’s some surprises.”

And not to worry — the cast confirms that Season 2 will continue to deliver on LGBTQ+ representation, placing the show’s many queer characters and their relationships front and center.

“I’m very loud about my own sexuality, and I’m very proud about it, because I have nothing to be ashamed of,” Aliyah says. “[On XO, Kitty], it’s not like Yuri and Juliana are ‘special friends’ — no, that’s her girlfriend. I’m thankful to be on a show that’s very positive about that and very honest. This is a normal relationship, and there’s nothing weird about it. We’re gonna go through the same ebbs and flows that everybody else is going through.”

Ahead of Season 2, The Nerds of Color chatted with Anna Cathcart, Minyeong Choi, Gia Kim, Sang Heon Lee, Anthony Keyvan, and Regan Aliyah about love triangles, representation, what the cast loves most about the XO, Kitty fandom, and so much more. Watch the full interview below:
