Drop is now out in theaters! It’s one of the most fun in-theater experiences I’ve had this year, and I encourage everyone who hasn’t seen it yet to absolutely grab the popcorn, and go enjoy the ride. We were fortunate enough to attend the incredible evening of the film’s premiere where we got to speak with the terrific cast and producers of the film. Here’s what they had to say about the new Blumhouse thriller!
Horror is truly one of the few genres where female empowerment has been brilliantly illustrated over the decades. Going as far back as The Bride of Frankenstein, and evolving through to Laurie Strode from Halloween, Sydney Prescott from Scream, and Grace from Ready or Not, there has been a long standing tradition of women kicking so much ass and surviving against all odds within the horror genre. I’m pleased that we get to add another name to the list with Meghann Fahy’s Violet in Blumhouse’s Drop.
Drop comes to us from amazing horror-comedy director Christopher Landon, who knows a thing or two about female empowerment, having directed both Freaky and the Happy Death Day series; both of which feature amazingly strong female characters like Kathryn Newton’s Millie Kessler (albeit through Vince Vaughn’s body), and Jessica Rothe’s Tree Gelbman. He’s known for his wit and his ability to take unconventional ensembles and make you fall in love with them almost immediately. Fahy’s Violet now joins that amazing company, as the film depicts a strong and intelligent woman — a former survivor of spousal abuse no less — and has her flip the scripts against all of her attackers.
In addition to Fahy, we recently had the opportunity to talk to the cast and producers of Drop at their stunning red carpet premiere last week. Take a look at what they had to say about smart horror, and even smarter characters:
Drop is now playing in theaters. I truly do want to vouch for this one, and inspire folks to see this, because it is actually a really wonderful surprise from Blumhouse!
