Buckle up, peaches! A new season of Netflix’s Ginny & Georgia is just around the corner, and it looks like it’s going to be a wild ride.

The popular YA comedy-drama follows unconventional mother Georgia (Brianne Howey) and her teenage daughter Ginny (Antonia Gentry) as they attempt to escape Georgia’s less-than-pure past and start a new life in the quirky small town of Wellsbury, Massachusetts. Unfortunately for the duo, trouble always seems to be just around the corner.

Netflix just released the trailer for Season 3, which picks up after the events of the explosive Season 2 finale “I’m No Cinderella,” which shockingly saw Georgia arrested at her wedding for the murder of her friend Cynthia’s (Sabrina Grdevich) terminally ill husband. As Georgia awaits her trial, Ginny’s entire world is turned upside down and her relationships are put to the test like never before.

In addition to Howey and Gentry, Ginny & Georgia stars Felix Mallard, Sara Waisglass, Diesel La Torraca, Jennifer Robertson, Scott Porter, Raymond Ablack, Katie Douglas, Chelsea Clark, Nathan Mitchell, and more. The series is created by Sarah Lampert, who co-executive produces this season alongside newly appointed showrunner Sarah Glinski (Degrassi: Next Class). Jeff Tahler, Jenny Daly, Holly Hines, Daniel March, Lance Samuels, Daniel Iron, Armand Leo, Elena Blekhter, and Ali Kinney also serve as EPs.

It will certainly be interesting to see how the show approaches the justice system this season considering that Georgia, a white woman, would surely be treated differently in the eyes of the law — not to mention, the court of public opinion — than if her biracial daughter were the one on trial.

While the series initially faced criticism for its handling of race (viewers will remember the infamous “oppression olympics” scene that went viral for all the wrong reasons), Season 2 was largely considered a vast improvement in that it handled issues like colorism and anti-Blackness much more thoughtfully. Overall, Ginny & Georgia feels like a rare example of a show that actually takes fan feedback into consideration when it comes to important topics, which can no doubt be attributed to the many BIPOC writers involved.

Season 3 of Ginny & Georgia premieres on Netflix June 5. Additionally, it’s already been renewed for a fourth season, which is currently underway. Stay tuned for more coverage!
