Spanish filmmaker Nacho Vigalondo gave us Anne Hathaway psychically linked to a giant kaiju monster in 2016’s Colossal, and that was good fun. His new film Daniela Forever features a grieving Henry Golding using a science-fictional sleep therapy following the death of his girlfriend Daniela. His lucid dreaming may bring him back into contact with her, or is it a simulation?
Here’s a lovely trailer:
We’ve seen Golding in the literary romance arena in 2022’s Persuasion, and some may remember his turn in the George Michael-influenced rom-com Last Christmas (2019) with Emilia Clarke. The first images from Daniela Forever give the sense of a search for love and reconciliation in a surrealist dreamscape, in the vein of Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, perhaps? Looking forward to having minds bent and hearts rent by this one.
Daniela Forever comes to theaters July 11 from Well Go Entertainment.
