Malik S. delivers a hilarious hour-long comedy special that peels back the curtain on dating, growing up in a single-parent household, and the stereotypes of Haitian voodoo. The Nerds of Color had an exclusive opportunity to chat with Malik S. about his new special.
Produced by Ali Siddiq and directed by Cedric the Entertainer, Malik’s new comedy special is an instant hit. As a Haitian American, his set infuses a mix of humor and insightfulness that many from immigrant households can relate to. Malik opens up about navigating divorce, dating expectations as he ages, kids who now live with an abundance of instant gratification, and how he found success despite growing up with only his mother as the head of house.
The Nerds of Color had the opportunity to watch an early screening of the comedy special Laughing Voodoo, while also taking a quick moment to chat with both Malik S. and Siddiq on the red carpet. Malik expressed his appreciation as a Haitian artist for being able to bring this special to viewers. His advice to aspiring comedians is: “Just do it. Just go for it. You won’t know until you do it.” You can watch our full conversation below.
A solid comedy special with non-stop laughs, we rate it 5 out of 5 heehee’s. Laughing Voodoo can be streamed on YouTube beginning January 11.
