After more than a decade in production hell, a live action Flash film is finally in production after director, Andy Muschietti confirmed as much on Instagram.
Starring Ezra Miller reprising their Justice League role as Barry Allen, the film, simply titled The Flash, is rumored to follow the “Flashpoint” storyline that finds our hero traveling in time to save his mother and altering the timeline — while cracking open the multiverse — in the process.
The film will find Barry encountering multiple versions of DC’s pantheon of heroes including Sasha Calle’s Supergirl as well as both Ben Affleck and Michael Keaton since they’re both confirmed to reprise their roles as their respective generation’s iconic cinematic Batman.
After a standout performance in Zack Snyder’s Justice League, not to mention a jaw-dropping cameo in The CW’s Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover in 2019, anticipation for a movie featuring the Scarlet Speedster is through the roof. Now that filming has actually begun — on the heels of production commencing on The Rock’s Black Adam, another DC project that’s toiled in production purgatory for a decade — the future of the DC cinematic multiverse is finally upon us.
There’s still a bit of a wait, however, as The Flash isn’t scheduled to hit theaters until November 2022.
