The Unforgivable was directed by Nora Fingscheidt. The film was released in theaters on November 24 and will begin streaming December 10 on Netflix. Fingscheidt works in both documentary and narrative, as well as with full-length films and shorts.
Released from prison after serving a sentence for a violent crime, Ruth Slater (Bullock) re-enters a society that refuses to forgive her past. Facing severe judgment from the place she once called home, her only hope for redemption is finding the estranged younger sister she was forced to leave behind.
Fingscheidt’s graduation film, the full-length documentary Without This World, won the Max Ophüls Prize and First Steps Award in 2017. Her narrative film debut, System Crasher, premiered at Berlinale 2019, where it won a Silver Bear (Alfred Bauer Award), won eight German Film Awards, as well as many international awards. The film was also Germany’s entry for the Oscars in 2020.
