The ‘Eternals’ Arrive on Blu-ray and 4K in February

As previously reported, Eternals is finally arriving to homes everywhere this January! And they’re bringing a whole slew of awesome special features and deleted scenes! Now, folks who weren’t able to make it to the theaters will finally get to see the ambitious and bold work of director Chloé Zhao, and her intergalactic, epic impact on the MCU!

I really like Eternals. I think I’ve made that apparent in my review. So much so, that it really upset me that it was getting somewhat unfairly panned for committing the same exact sins other films like Dune honestly commit — Namely the abundance of characters and exposition crammed into a lengthy film. It feels like a double standard to read reviews saying “amazing visuals and themes, but lack of character development” on both, when Dune ended up being heralded as one of the year’s best, while Eternals is the MCU’s first officially rotten film. I have to wonder if there’s just a bias towards White dudes directing a sci-fi epic versus women of color, or perhaps, genre bias against a film that challenges the norm of an established 13-year franchise?

Whatever the case, I really hope and encourage folks to seek out and revisit this film, because Zhao arguably actually manages to narratively accomplish so much more in the 2.5 hour runtime here than Villaneuve does in the entirety of Dune. Think about it and tell me I’m wrong there! Is it a perfect movie? No! But I think it deserves more credit than it’s being given. And hoping folks out there will agree in time.
