It’s a big day for Tron fans! Because Disney and Jared Leto have officially revealed our first look at the highly anticipated third chapter in the cult classic franchise: Tron: Ares! Click here to read more!

Along with the first look at the film, which debuts in 2025, we got our first idea of what the movie will be about, with an official synopsis from Disney, which reads as follows:

TRON: Ares follows a highly sophisticated Program, Ares, who is sent from the digital world into the real world on a dangerous mission, marking humankind’s first encounter with A.I. beings.

Now admittedly the thing that stands out to me is the statement “humankind’s first encounter with A.I. beings.” It’s making me think that everything with Quorra — Olivia Wilde’s character, who was an ISO program that enters the real world, in Tron: Legacy — is officially being jettisoned. And that makes me sad, but also curious about what director Joachim Rønning has up his sleeve.

The first look image is presumably Leto’s character, Ares. And while he’s definitely a divisive figure in the world of entertainment, the design of the character looks great and is pretty consistent with the look and feel of the world of Tron. Additionally he’ll be joined by some pretty great castmates including Greta Lee, Evan Peters, Hasan Minhaj, Jodie Turner-Smith, Arturo Castro, Cameron Monaghan, and Gillian Anderson.

I’m definitely a huge Past Lives fan so it’ll be awesome seeing Lee on the grid!

Let’s see where they go with this!
