Filming Wraps on Dreamworks’ Live-Action ‘How to Train Your Dragon’

It’s time to once again take flight to The Isle of Berk! As Dreamworks and Universal bring the magic of the classic How to Train Your Dragon trilogy to life in stunning live action next year!

Now I know most folks are probably burnt out on live-action remakes of animated classics. Disney has ensured that they leave a sour taste in our mouths. They tend to be inferior, often adding nothing to the story that wasn’t already done perfectly in animation. However, for those cynics out there, I will argue that next year’s How to Train Your Dragon might actually be different!

For one thing, longtime franchise helmer, Dean DeBlois, who knows the franchise inside and out, is returning to the director’s chair. And for another, the cast is stacked with the likes of pitch perfect actors, such as The Black Phone’s Mason Thames as Hiccup, Nico Parker as Astrid, Nick Frost as Gobber, and reprising his role from the animated films, Gerard Butler as Stoic! But finally, and most importantly, who doesn’t want to see the majestic beauty of a character like Toothless, the extraordinary Night Fury, come to life on the big screen. This has all the elements of a masterpiece in the making! So I have the fullest of faiths in this one to be amazing.

And thankfully, as officially announced on social, principal photography on the film has officially wrapped! Take a look at the social post below:

As the post indicates, they shot the film in 85 days, but taking a look at the comments from the cast and crew, it seems like everyone had a great time and are showing their love for director DeBlois. And I, for one, think that’s a tremendously great sign! I do also wonder if that means a trailer will be in our future in the coming months?

Whatever the case, it’s a very exciting time to be a fan of the How to Train Your Dragon franchise (I know from experience), given the upcoming release of the film, but also its own section in the upcoming Universal theme park Epic Universe in Orlando, next year!

The cast also includes Julian Dennison, Gabriel Howell, Bronwyn James, and Harry Trevaldwyn!

How to Train Your Dragon hits theaters June 13, 2025!
