Chronicles of the Avatar is back! The young adult fiction series set within the world of Avatar: The Last Airbender is about to drop its fifth installment, centered on a new Avatar, penned by a new writer.

After F.C. Yee brought stories to life of Avatars Kyoshi and Yangchen respectively, author Randy Ribay has taken the wheel with The Reckoning of Roku. Set a few months after finding out that he’s the new Avatar, Roku finds himself struggling with not only mastering the elements, but also in finding his place, when his allegiances can no longer be just to the Fire Nation (much to the dismay of his best friend, Crown Prince Sozin).

The Nerds of Color had the pleasure of interviewing Ribay, where he talked about how he came aboard as the next author of the series following Yee, how he became a fan of the franchise in 2020, what it was like to be writing for an Avatar whom fans already know a lot about, and also teased a little bit about the Filipino cultural influences he weaved into the Fire Nation.

The Reckoning of Roku will be available starting tomorrow, July 23, wherever books are sold.
