There are several series in the world of books that continue exploring the universe and characters of the beloved Nickelodeon series, Avatar: The Last Airbender. From the graphic novels that continue where the original series and its followup, The Legend of Korra, left off, to the Chronicles of the Avatar young adult series, there’s been plenty more for fans of the franchise to explore.

Now, another new series of books is about to launch in the form of Avatar Legends, which explores the minor characters of legendary events from the series. The girl that Zuko goes on a date with in the Season 2 episode, “The Tales of Ba Sing Se,” Jin, takes center stage in the first book of the series, City of Echoes.

Ahead of the book’s release, The Nerds of Color spoke with author Judy I. Lin on becoming a fan of the series during the pandemic, writing for the character of Jin, and on the act of writing a novel set in a series that’s originally presented in a visual medium.

City of Echoes is available wherever books are sold. Also, Lin will be at San Diego Comic-Con this Friday, July 25; for an autograph signing at 4:30PM, and will be one of the panelists on the “Water, Earth, Fire, Air: Continuing the Avatar Legacy” panel at 6:00PM.
