Actress and producer Nhi Do has made a significant mark in Hollywood with major roles in Zack Snyder’s Watchmen and the Netflix hit, Maid. Now she’s breaking into the indie scene with a terrific performance in a thrilling short film called The Sorrow.
The Sorrow is written and directed by Thomas Affolter, and produced by Do. It evokes the works of brilliant horror directors like Mike Flanagan and James Wan, but with the clever socially conscious themes of Jordan Peele.
The short centers on the caregiver (Do) of a celebrated Vietnam War veteran, who begins to experience some creepy supernatural phenomena occurring in the residency she’s working at. Do does a terrific job carrying this short. However, the terrific messaging behind the heavy themes of the senseless evil and sadism to come out of the Vietnam War and the scars of trauma left behind by the consequences of it are prominent throughout every terrifying frame of this story.
It was an absolute pleasure to touch on these themes and have a terrific conversation about them with Do, which you’ll see in our interview right here:
The Sorrow is making the festival circuit right now and recently won the Morbido Fest Gold Skull for Global Short. We can’t wait to share more about it in the future!
