NBC’s One Chicago casts and showrunners have major storylines headed this way for the fall. We caught up with some of the actors and producers from Chicago P.D., Chicago Med, and Chicago Fire for all of the latest details.
Last year, we saw Chicago P.D., Chicago Med, and Chicago Fire explore numerous changes in terms of character development and story arcs. Most notably, we were treated to the major mid-season crossover event ‘In the Trenches,’ bringing all three shows together with characters from each series working with each other when a government building suffered a gas explosion and fire. Now, they’ve all returned for the fall 2025 season, and The Nerds of Color had the opportunity to speak with actors and producers from each show to discuss what we can expect.
CHICAGO P.D.
At the end of Season 12, Chicago P.D. left us wondering whether or not Hank Voight (Jason Beghe) will be able to get the Intelligence Unit back together, while also leaving us with questions about his own future within the force. When asked if he felt that Voight has boundaries as to what could be considered too far when conducting his work, Beghe expressed that ultimately, Voight does not. “No, there isn’t,” said Beghe. “That’s from Voight’s point of view. And so, Voight… he doesn’t have a lot of doubt in his universe.” Season 13 is sure to see Voight employ new tactics to work within his new position without his unit.
CHICAGO MED
Chicago Med had a tumultuous set of events throw Dr. Dean Archer (Steven Weber) for a loop last season. From stepping down as chief, to tripping on acid, his character ended Season 10 with a shocking cliffhanger questioning whether or not he could be the father of Hannah’s (Jessy Schram) child. Interestingly, Weber shared with us his thoughts about that potential reveal and how the age gap between him and Jessy did cross his mind when reading the script: “You know, the whole thing having to do with Dean’s age, the age discrepancy between he and Hannah, I have to admit tweaked me a bit. Because you know, I know how old I am, and I know what my limits are.” With new relationships emerging and lots of questions that need answers, Season 11 will be bringing a lot of change to each character’s storylines.
CHICAGO FIRE
The longest-running series of the three, Season 13 of Chicago Fire saw Randall “Mouch” McHolland (Christian Stolte) accomplish his goal of becoming a lieutenant after passing his exam. As we enter Season 14, executive producer and writer Andrea Newman discussed with The Nerds of Color what inspires some of the storylines and character development we can look forward to watching unfold. “We’re playing right off the bat that Chicago has changed, and we’re keeping this true to real life,” said Newman. “But with the budget cuts and with all the topsy-turviness of politics these days, without playing into the politics part of it, how that affects the boots on the ground guys that are and gals that are our people… 51 is known as the best firehouse in the city, so more stuff is going to fall on our guy’s shoulder, so we get to see what that looks like…”
