We’re still basking in that post-Comic-Con afterglow, so this week is full of SDCC recaps from our folks on the ground: Mike, Nikita, and Lauren. Also, Dominic had an excellent reflection on the 40th anniversary of Transformers: The Movie, for which a special re-release was announced at the Con. Plus interviews, announcements, reviews, and oh yeah, Spider-Man: Brand New Day comes out today.
First, the SDCC fallout. Mike bookended the week covering Hall H panels for the Big Two — Marvel Studios and DC (via HBO’s Lanterns panel) — plus DreamWorks’ Forgotten Island. Speaking of that animated film, Lauren got to hang out with P-Pop sensations BINI to talk about their contribution to the movie’s soundtrack. She also sat in on Nickelodeon’s massive Avatar: The Last Airbender Hall H showcase. In other SDCC happenings, Nikita chatted with Sung Kang and the cast of Drifter and Dom got into why Transformers: The Movie means so much to us Gen Xers who grew up with it.
In non-SDCC news, Laura got an exclusive on Terry Crews’ involvement in the next PAW Patrol movie. Nikita shared some sneak peeks at upcoming films Street Fighter and Children of Blood and Bone (no matter how much the author of the books doesn’t want us to see it). Nikita also talked to Pokémon composer Ed Goldfarb. Sophia also had interviews with the stars Sophie Thatcher and Charles Melton from Her Private Hell as well as Lana Condor from the Prime Video thriller, The Devil’s Mouth.
Finally, on the movie review front — Valerie reviewed two indie films: the baseball documentary, Bōru, and the black and white Lynchian noir, Meta Take One. And to cap the week, Swara assembled the NOCs of the Roundtable to give a spoilery review of Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
