I recently got to chat with the filmmakers and cast of Rebel Moon Part 2: The Scargiver, premiering today on Netflix.
Here’s the director, co-writer, and cinematographer, Zack Snyder, discussing his favorite part of the filming day, and the future for long movies:
Ed Skrein and Fra Free took time to share their acting approach towards playing the two formidable villains:
But also, we divert for a moment to mention: next week is Djimon Hounsou’s 60th birthday! (4/24/24, of all things!) Hounsou, who plays the redeemed general Titus, spoke off the cuff on his unusual perspective on birthdays, informed by his upbringing in Benin and France.
As a point of personal privilege, I wanted to acknowledge Mr. Hounsou’s great contribution to cinema and to science-fiction nerd genres in particular: from his early work in Amistad, ER, Stargate, and Gladiator to recent roles in Guardians of the Galaxy, Captain Marvel, Shazam, and Rebel Moon. I feel like I’ve grown up with his onscreen presence, and am pleased he’s reached his diamond jubilee (to use the monarchy-associated term).
We also chatted about favorite karaoke songs: Staz favors Queen (which you kinda got that sense, being honest), Elise enjoys a go at the Eagles’ “Hotel California,” and Djimon Hounsou cites a Bob Marley track that we’re going to figure out the name of by next week, I promise.
And continuing on the musical theme, stars Sofia Boutella and Michiel Huisman gave insight into how their training in dance and music relate to their performances in The Scargiver.
It also bears mentioning, although she was not present for press day, Bae Doona’s turn as Nemesis is straight sick awesomeness.
Both parts of Rebel Moon are available on Netflix now.
