Believe the hype. Project Hail Mary is a remarkable movie! Helmed by Phil Lord and Chris Miller, who brought us the Spider-Verse films, the film is hands down one of the best cinematic experiences of the decade, brimming with heart, humor, incredible visuals, and stellar acting. The last of which is courtesy of the film’s incredible stars: Academy Award nominees, Ryan Gosling and Sandra Hüller. Recently, The Nerds of Color was able to sit down in person with the duo to chat about their incredible new movie.
A deep movie deserves a deep conversation. So I won’t lie. Our conversation with Gosling and Hüller got heavy. It was almost unavoidable given how much Project Hail Mary touches on the themes of humanity, loneliness, utilitarianism, and sacrifice. It’s a film that makes you think, with stars that know the world and characters backwards and forwards. More than that, it’s a movie about friendship. And Gosling’s co-star, an Eridian extraterrestrial named Rocky, steals the show despite not even having a face that’s obvious to audiences.
As such, getting to talk to Gosling and Hüller about Rocky, and the film’s themes was an absolute honor. We dove into why space films have such a profound way of exploring the themes of the human condition, as well as what the film has to say about human beings in general, as a species. Take a look at what they had to say right here:
I promise you, Project Hail Mary will go down as, perhaps, one of the best science fiction films of the 2020s. You won’t regret seeing this one on the biggest screen possible. Catch it when it launches into theaters March 20th, 2026!
