What are You Doing this Weekend?

This year, Easter Weekend is a busy one in the geekosphere. Two big cons are happening on each coast, and an old school kung fu film fest is happening in the Big Apple. And each of these events will feature some of your favorite NOCs.

So click through and make your plans to spend time with some of us this weekend.

First up, if you’re in the DMV (that’s DC-Maryland-Virginia to folks not familiar), the region’s biggest convention is happening today through Sunday. Awesome Con also happens to feature the largest number of NOC-affiliated folks. Not only is Patrick Michael Strange moderating two panels (as well as filming his local talk show Fantastic Forum), but so will our own YouTube sensation Natalie Kim!

Patrick will be moderating two panels this weekend: one featuring the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers  on Saturday, August 19th from 12:30-1:30 in room 207B featuring actors: David Yost (Blue Ranger) and Walter Emanuel Jones (Black Ranger) and one featuring The Walking Dead‘s IronE Singleton on Saturday, April 19th from 4:45-5:45 in room 202!

In addition, Natalie will be moderating a Q&A with Goonies and Lord of the Rings star Sean Astin on Saturday at 10:45.

If you’re already in DC today, the official Awesome Con After Party, presented by SONICBOOMBOX (and our pal Jon Haehnle) — and hosted by Ani-Mia & Soni Aralynn — is happening tonight at Opera Ultra Lounge. Also, Erin Strain, Marketing Manager of ThinkGeek, will be spinning all night!

Admission is $15, and you must be 21+ to get in. Cosplay is encouraged, and the top 3 costumes will win prizes courtesy of Laughing Ogre. But wait! There’s more!

On Saturday, our favorite internet rapper Adam WarRock will be opening for Andrew WK at the world famous Black Cat at 9pm. Get tickets here, or at the door!

And that’s just the East Coast. If you’re in California, another huge show is happening this weekend too! Wonder Con — in its new digs in Anaheim — also kicks off today, and you can catch our own Brandon Easton on a panel about breaking in to the comics biz.

If you’re in Anaheim, be sure to stop by Diamond Comic Distributors’ booth and say hi to Michel too!

Finally, if your tastes run more towards old school kung fu than comics, then you should head to the Anthology Film Archives in New York on 2nd Street and 2nd Avenue for the Old School Kung Fu Film Fest. There will be a Lau Kar-Leung tribute as well as a nice little art show that was curated by friend of the blog, Jerry Ma.

The artwork featured is by some of the artists we’ve featured here at the NOC, including Bernard Chang, Larry Hama, John Jennings, Ken Knudtsen, and Jef Castro!

Legendary Weapons of China illustrated by John Jennings!
