The LucasFilm portion of the D23Expo wouldn’t be complete without a tease of the fifth untitled Indiana Jones film. While we can’t share any footage or reveal a title, we can provide you a small recap of what we heard and saw from the cast and crew of the film.
James Mangold describes getting the job as his Frozen moment. The director couldn’t believe he gets to collaborate with the likes of Harrison Ford, Kathleen Kennedy, and the great John Williams.
Mangold cites Raiders of the Lost Ark as “one of the reasons I became a film director.” “To be working on this film, and one of my producers is Steven Spielberg, who is one of my all time favorite filmmakers,” the directed said of the experience. “And it has been an honor and a pleasure to collaborate with you on this.”
“These films are about mystery and adventure but they’re also about heart and I’m really happy that we have a human story to tell as well as a movie that will kick your ass,” Ford continued. “I will not fall down for you again,” he added, suggesting that this is indeed his final one.

“I’m proud to say this one is fantastic. And this is one of the reasons,” Ford continued as he pointed to his co-star Phoebe Waller-Bridge. And Waller-Bridge plays a pivotal role in the film as her character is Indiana Jones’ goddaughter.
As for footage, we can, of course, expect to see a lot of chases. In fact, we get to see Indy involved in a rickshaw chase on the streets, and a foot chase on top of a train. And there will be a few planes crashes too. Not to mention globe trotting across the globe. In one of the funnier scenes, we see Indiana trapped in a room with Waller-Bridge’s character surrounded by bad guys. While Indiana is able to use his whip and scare them, as soon as he stops, they pull out their guns and start firing.
And before everything came to an end, we overhear Indy say something to the effect of “I’ve come to believe it’s not so much what you believe, it’s how hard you believe.” Which sorta echoed what he said in Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
Indiana Jones 5 may not have a title just yet, but we know that it is written by Mangold, Jez Butterworth, Jonathan Kasdan, and John-Henry Butterworth. The film also stars Mads Mikkelsen, Thomas Kretschmann, Boyd Holbrook, Shaunette Renée Wilson, Toby Jones, and Antonio Banderas, with John Rhys-Davies returning to play Sallah. The film opens in theaters on June 30, 2023.
