In Scream VI, Melissa Barrera, Jasmin Savoy Brown, and Mason Gooding return to their leading roles in the beloved franchise. The new film hits theaters on March 10.

Scream (2022) was a self-described “requel” of Scream (1996), relaunching the franchise with Sam Carpenter, who is the illegitimate daughter of Billy Loomis, her half-sister Tara Carpenter, as well as twins Mindy and Chad Meeks-Martin at the core.
“I feel like Sam in this sixth movie is finally dealing head-on with everything that she’s been running away from. In the fifth movie, we saw her very closed off, very kind of, you know, she’s medicated, she’s tough and she’s built this wall around her, but at the end of the movie, it all comes crashing down and she snaps. She finally embraces that darkness and so, we don’t get to see the effects of that,” Barrera explained. “Now we do, so now we see her in therapy, which is a great thing that she’s proactively trying to do to heal and to deal with this constant temptation, this little devil on her shoulder that’s talking to her — little devil, Billy Loomis. But yeah, I love that we get to see a Sam post the dam bursting and we get to see a more vulnerable side of her because she has more to lose now.”

Following the latest Ghostface killings, the four survivors leave Woodsboro behind and start a fresh chapter.
“Working with Jasmin Savoy Brown is artistically fulfilling because she allows for play in each and every scene she’s in. Not just because she’s incredibly talented, but because the communication around the scene both considers how I’m feeling, cause she’s a very empathetic person, and how that can be involved in the scene from like our dynamic,” Gooding told me.
“Who is this guy? The kindest, sweetest, most genuine person, who’s always just — he has his heart on his sleeve and I’m trying to take care of it,” Brown expressed. “My little Mason.”
