‘All American’ Stars Michael Evans Behling and Greta Onieogou on Jordayla’s Love Story

Michael Evans Behling and Greta Onieogou star as Jordan and Layla Baker on The CW’s All American. New episodes of season 7 air on Mondays at 8 PM ET.

In Season 7, Jordan (Michael Evans Behling), Layla (Greta Onieogou), and Coop (Bre-Z) step into a new chapter as adults, while helping a new generation of Beverly and Crenshaw teens navigate life and football. Jordan and Layla, now blissfully married and living in the Baker house, face new challenges as they juggle their youth, the life they are building together, and their individual careers.

“In terms of the relationship aspect, it was so exciting for me when Jordan and Layla started on this journey and got together because I think it’s the first time really that I feel like she’s in a really healthy relationship where both parties are just as interested in one another, and it feels like there’s a mutual support and love. I think just for Layla, who’s been through so much, it’s really nice for me to see her sort of settled in that way,” Onieogou explained. “Seven seasons of growing with a character and evolving with a character has been so fun. It’s so rare now that you get that much time with a character as an actor. Obviously, seasons are shorter and how many seasons a show produces is so much less, so I just feel really fortunate that we’ve both gotten so much time with these characters.”

Behling added, “An exciting thing about Jordan and Layla was it’s this understanding and this concept that they introduced to me, I think it was season 5 maybe, where Jordan’s been crushing on her since childhood. And so, to then be able to get this girl that he’s just kind of been — I don’t want to say waiting [for] because that sounds really weird, but that he’s just kind of been reserved with but at the same time had such heavy feelings for, to be able to keep playing in that and keep growing in that, and allowing them to just now take on this new journey of being a married couple, and just doing the ups and downs, the trials and tribulations of marriage in general and then, also trying to maintain and having fun as young people.”

I spoke with the actors about growing with their characters throughout the series, which moments made them begin to root for Jordayla, which storylines were the most challenging for them to do, and more.
