Talking About ‘TRON: Ares’ with Arturo Castro

I loved TRON: Ares! Based on reviews from my fellow colleagues, I’m glad to know I’m not the only one. TRON may be a niche franchise, but I simply can’t get enough of the crazy lightcycle sequences, the insane disc battles, buzzing techno soundtracks, and giant recognizers eclipsing the neon-lit skylines of The Grid! So I’m incredibly thrilled to share a bonus TRON interview with you all: a conversation with the hilarious and charismatic Arturo Castro!

Entering The Grid with the Cast and Director of ‘TRON: Ares’

Fun fact: I’ve actually been obsessed with TRON for a long time. Both the original TRON and TRON: Legacy were films that were ahead of their time, with creator Steven Lisberger and future Top Gun: Maverick director Joseph Kosinski exploring themes such as the dangers of corporate greed and the abuse of technology and power in both films.

Worlds Collide in the New ‘TRON: Ares’ Trailer

Holy crap! This looks amazing! I’ve mentioned before how much of a TRON fan I am. I’ve lamented when I found out we weren’t getting a direct sequel to TRON: Legacy. But after seeing the new trailer for TRON: Ares, any concerns have been completely derezzed!

New Trailer for ‘Tron: Ares’ Showcases Representation on the Grid

I’ve loved the Tron franchise for a long time! To me, this was one of the finest and most underrated franchises to come out of the House of Mouse, with some of the best visuals and concepts put to screen both of and ahead of its times. The gorgeous work from the original Tron to the fantastic sequences in Tron: Legacy still hold up today!

Flynn Lives! Jeff Bridges Officially Back for ‘Tron: Ares’

If you are a Tron fan (And I know there’s a handful of us out there), you’ve probably approached the prospect of a film like Tron: Ares with skepticism. The star of Morbius, the director of Maleficent 2 and Pirates of the Caribbean 5, and a concept that seemed disconnected from the story established in Tron and Tron: Legacy hardly instilled confidence. But now, we just got news that will hopefully change the game for the upcoming sequel for fans all over!

‘Pan’ and the Amazing Technicolor Natives

First things first: Pan — opening in U.S. theaters this weekend — is a colorful, action-packed PG-13 reimagining  of the origins of Peter Pan and his relationships with and to Captain Hook, Tiger Lily, and Neverland as we know them through J.M. Barrie’s play and novel and their myriad subsequent Broadway, Disney, and Hollywood (re)interpretations.

My daughters, ages 11 and 6, enjoyed the film, and the 6-year-old, who often asks to leave the theater during intense or “scary” action sequences, made it through with only a bit of parental ear-covering during loud bits. The world-building and -design and the effects were beautiful and well-done, with visual call-backs to many fantasy, science fiction, and action films that parents will recognize fondly (the Mad Max films and Avatar being just an example) and original effects like giant bubbles of water containing aquatic life floating in the sky that I will remember for a while. But it’s the twists, and the questions and consequences they bring up, that I want to talk about now. So from here on in, SPOILERS AHEAD.
