Going Bananas with ‘Primate’ Star Victoria Wyant

Audiences are going ape for Primate, which surprisingly became the #1 thriller in the country this past weekend! It’s been a while since horror fans were treated to an old school creature feature, and thankfully the monkey shines of a rabid chimpanzee named Ben were what they needed to satisfy that itch. More rare than any simian-based horror movie, however, is one with prominent Asian cast members. Which is why we were so pleased when we got the opportunity to chat with one of the film’s stars, mixed-Asian actress, Victoria Wyant, who is wonderful as Kate in the new chiller!

Wyant’s character, Kate, is something of a moral compass in the film, portraying the best friend of star Johnny Sequoyah’s character, Lucy. Her role, alongside the rest of the young and talented cast, was a challenging one, having to spend hours treading water in a pool, and getting doused with blood for the entire duration of the film. Thankfully the young mixed-British/Korean actress was more than up to the task of battling a blood-thirsty out-of-control chimpanzee!

We were able to share a laugh or two with Wyant, and discuss the process of working with the wonderful stunt team that brought Ben to life, as well as the challenges of having to film in a pool for large stretches of the film’s shoot. Here’s what she had to say about surviving Primate:
