Taking a Ride with the Cast and Director of ‘Passenger’

It may be May, but spooky season appears to already be upon us! This is proving to be a summer of scares, with terrifying new releases arriving in theaters this month and going far into August. This Friday brings us the latest fright flick from Autopsy of Jane Doe director, André Øvredal: Passenger!

When the trailer for Passenger hit earlier this year, it absolutely terrified audiences. The moody marketing piece set up a slow burn scene involving two buddies on a road trip, with things taking a sharp, horrifying tone within a single minute. It truly showcased Øvredal’s ability to do so much with so little.

Add to that the addition of two rising POC leads in Lou Liobell (Foundation) and Jacob Scipio (Bad Boys For Life) and you have the makings of a potential horror ride from Hell (yes that’s meant to be complimentary)! As everyone knows POC actors are rarely afforded the lead role in most horror movies. Most of the time, as side characters, they end up being sacrificed fodder used as human shields for the often Caucasian leads. Thankfully things have changed a bit since the ’90s-early ’00s, and we’ve seen something of an influx with POC final characters.

Will Liobell and Scipio be among the lucky few to make it to the end as well? Only Øvredal knows for sure. Here’s what they all had to say about Passenger:

Passenger is now officially in theaters to haunt your dreams and make you afraid of the open road!
