Disney’s ‘Hexed’ Trailer Sends Hailee Steinfeld Into a Magical New Realm

Walt Disney Animation Studios has released the first trailer for Hexed. The film features the voice talents of Hailee Steinfeld and Rashida Jones in a coming-of-age animated feature that follows what happens when impulsive and unconventional teenage girl unleashes ecret magical abilities, she’s hurtled out of suburbia and into a magical realm called Hexe.

The film has undergone some significant changes since it was first announced at D23 Expo 2025. The original version centered on a young boy and his Type-A mother, but the story shifted toward a mother-daughter relationship when Steinfeld was announced as the voice of Billie, the film’s new lead.

Changes of this scale are not especially surprising given how long animated films take to develop. Stories and characters can evolve considerably during production, though the trailer should offer a clearer sense of how the new version differs from what Disney originally announced.

The film marks the 65th animated feature from Walt Disney Animation Studios, and has by Fawn Veerasunthorn and Jason Hand serving as directors, with Josie Trinidad co-directing. Roy Conli and Yvett Merino will produce.

Veerasunthorn said, “A wonderfully strange phenomenon is happening all around Billie, something she can’t explain. She’s someone who has felt miscast in her own life, and it takes leaving her normal world behind and entering a hidden world of wild, unhinged magic to begin to understand herself.”

“Hexe is a place where Billie begins to feel seen for the first time in her life,” Hand said. “She embarks on a journey of self-discovery that reveals a powerful connection to magic, and in the process uncovers long-held secrets about her family.”

Set to Stevie Nicks’ “Edge of Seventeen,” the trailer uses the song’s driving rhythm and famous “white-winged dove” refrain to emphasize Billie’s rebellious personality while giving her journey into the supernatural world a fittingly mystical edge.

Hexed also features the voice talents of Tracey Ullman, who will voice Ms. Quill, with Stephen Fry voicing Elias Quire.

The trailer is already drawing comparisons to a live-action Disney Classic, Halloweentown where those with magical abilities can travel from the ordinary world to the magical world of Hexe. And in the film, Billie discovers family mysteries that could change the magical world of witches forever.

Hexed opens exclusively in theaters November 25, 2026.
