Morgan Elsbeth and Barriss Offee Take Center Stage in ‘Tales of the Empire’ Trailer

In 2022, Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi was released, exploring untold stories via short films of characters, Ahsoka Tano and Count Dooku. The Dave Filoni-helmed animated anthology series was a hit among fans, leading to the announcement at last year’s Star Wars Celebration that a second season would follow.

What wasn’t mentioned at the time is that this season wouldn’t focus on the Jedi at all, but rather on players for the Empire. In today’s release of the trailer for the second season, titled Tales of the Empire, Morgan Elsbeth and Barriss Offee were revealed as the core characters.

Morgan is a somewhat recent addition to the Star Wars lore, having first been introduced in season two of The Mandalorian as the magistrate of Calodan. Audiences got to learn a bit more about this character in Ahsoka, though only to some extent. From watching fires burn on her home planet of Dathomir, to eventually rising to being Calodon’s magistrate, Tales of the Empire looks to explore more of her mysterious story.

To see Barriss as the other central character of this season is likely a big surprise for fans of The Clone Wars. 11 years have passed since we last saw the former Jedi, being turned in by Anakin Skywalker as the true culprit behind the bombing of the Jedi Temple on Coruscant — a crime that Ahsoka was previously framed for. She changed paths out of believing that the Jedi had lost their way in the midst of their heavy involvement in the Clone Wars, yet what was evident — both from when we last saw her and in the trailer for Tales of the Empire — is that she too is experiencing the same. With the Grand Inquisitor taking an interest in her, it seems that she goes on to become one of many Inquisitors, tasked with hunting down any remaining Jedi. If that is actually the case, will she succeed?

Diana Lee Inosanto, who portrayed Morgan in The Mandalorian and Ahsoka, will be reprising her role for animation. Meredith Salenger, who voiced Barriss in The Clone Wars, is returning to do so once more.

Speculations and questions shall be answered when all six episodes of Tales of the Empire come to Disney+ a month from now on May the 4th.
