‘The Fall Guy’ Live Stunt Show Comes to Universal Studios for a Limited Time

The Fall Guy is a love letter to stuntmen and all other below-the-line workers. As such, the dedication to the art and craft of stunts should be acknowledged. And Universal Studios Hollywood, in collaboration with Universal Pictures and 87North, presents “The Fall Guy Stuntacular Pre-Show,” inspired by the filmas part of the theme park’s popular “WaterWorld” attraction, beginning Saturday, April 27 through Sunday, May 19, 2024.

The all-new show, produced by 87North Productions, features an original storyline designed to provide an entertaining peek behind the curtain of how stunt performances are designed and brought to life while celebrating the artistry of the film industry’s unsung heroes — the stunt performers.

“We make movies to give audiences an experience, and what better way to amplify 87North’s brand of action storytelling than to evolve into live events,” The Fall Guy director David Leitch said. “We are so thankful to our partners at Universal who embraced our ideas and gave us the platform to do something really fun and immersive with The Fall Guy.”

Using the existing “WaterWorld” set, the action packed “The Fall Guy Stuntacular Pre-Show” will feature dynamic, unforgettable new stunts and entertain guests with an exclusive performance that can only be seen at Universal Studios Hollywood.

An exclusive social engagement, The Fall Guy photo op, will also be available within the theme park. Starting with the film’s release on May 3, guests and moviegoers will be able to enjoy a double dose of The Fall Guy by attending “The Fall Guy Stuntacular Pre-Show” and then seeing the film in style at Universal Cinema on Universal CityWalk Hollywood, either in the seven-story IMAX® with 4K laser projection or its new PRIME Theatre, featuring 4K laser projection technology and superior acoustics.

Loosely based on the 1980s television show of the same name, The Fall Guy stars Academy Award® nominee Ryan Gosling as Colt Seavers, a former stuntman who is drafted back into service when the star of a mega-budget studio movie, which is being helmed by his ex-girlfriend and first-time director Jody Moreno (Emily Blunt), goes missing. The Fall Guy also stars Black Panther’s Winston DukeBullet Train’s Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Emmy® winner Hannah Waddingham (Ted Lasso) and Oscar® nominee Stephanie Hsu (Everything Everywhere All at Once). The Fall Guy is produced by 87North’s Kelly McCormick and David Leitch, Guymon Casady, and Ryan Gosling.

Universal Studios Hollywood also released a promotional video which sees Gosling, Blunt, and Leitch pitching the idea to the theme park execs. As the three patiently wait, Waddingham enthusiastically bursts into the room and pitches her idea to handle the marketing since she plays a producer in the film. Her angle is that since the movie is a meta movie about making movies, the idea is to release some viral shorts based on the iconic duo from The Fall Guy as classic duos from Universal films. Meta films like Fallenheimer earns a cringe reaction from Gosling, while a Hobbs and Shaw 2 idea is worth exploring but only if Blunt takes the Statham role. Then there’s Notting Hill, although Blunt isn’t fully conifdent that Gosling can pull off the Cockney accent.

Gosling and Blunt are worried Waddingham doesn’t realize that The Fall Guy is already meta enough as it is, and that if she goes any further, they might as well reimagine Jurassic Park. To which, she shows their faces superimposed on Ellie Sattler and Allan Grant. They suggest Twins, and Waddingham is ready to show that. Gosling even proposes to go as far back as Abbott and Costello. Of course, Waddingham is ready. Gosling then demands she stop because they have already jumped the shark. He then riffs off an idea of him riding on a motorcycle across a ramp and jumping over a shark Leitch likes the idea, but Blunt is quick to cut Gosling at the knees saying that her costar is afraid of water and finds motor cycles noisy. Gosling scoffs at the accusation as to protect his masculinity.

What happens next remains to be seen, as this is only part one of a series of videos meant to promote The Fall Guy live-action show.
