Fantasmic! — one of Disneyland Resort’s longest-running nighttime spectaculars — returns this Friday after taking a year-long hiatus when the Maleficent dragon caught fire. The show features new special effects, a return of an iconic maritime battle, and a reimagined battle scene between Sorcerer Mickey and Maleficent.
In April 2023, the Maleficent Dragon that’s used during the climactic battle scene between Mickey and the evil sorceress caught fire. The incident caused the nighttime spectacular to close for the better part of the year as Disney imagineers and live-action team figured out how to bring the show back while also keeping cast members and audiences safe. The result is a newly reimagined battle scene between Sorcerer Mickey and Maleficent. In this thrilling scene, Maleficent dons her dark gown and wields her powerful scepter to ascend to a height of 35 feet as she appears to ignite the River of America in flames.
The return of the nighttime spectacular sees Mickey dancing and orchestrating various magical spells to make his dream come alive before an audience. Fireworks, characters, live actors, water effects, pyrotechnics, lasers, music, audio-animatronics, searchlights, decorated boat floats, and mist screen projections all help to make the show as magical as possible.
Fantasmic! will also bring back the iconic Peter Pan scene and introduces the addition of The Lost Boys as they join Peter Pan and Wendy to battle Captain Hook on a pirate ship.
The nighttime spectacular will have two nightly viewings and guests should check the Disneyland app and Disneyland.com for latest entertainment showtimes. Viewing is first-come, first-served. Guests should enter the viewing area via Frontierland and check with the nearest Cast Member for directions to the appropriate area.
Additionally, guests can book a Fantasmic! dining package, available at Blue Bayou Restaurant, River Belle Terrace and Rancho del Zocalo Restaurante.
