The gods have spoken! Ridley Scott is revisiting the Colosseum and bringing us a sequel to his beloved Best Picture-winning magnum opus, Gladiator. And today we got a first look at the first trailer for Gladiator II!
Throughout cinematic history, one question has always remained: how do you top a classic? Well if you’re Scott, you assemble a team of the finest talent, include some insane action sequences, and add a rhino. That’s what we get from the first trailer for Gladiator II.
The film will follow an adult Lucius (Academy Award nominee Paul Mescal), who is forced to become a gladiator, like his hero Maximus Decimus Meridius, to seek vengeance against the emperors who conquered his home.
In addition to Mescal, the film boasts a veritable who’s who of today’s biggest names, from the returning Connie Nielsen, to Denzel Washington and Fantastic Four members, Joseph Quinn, and of course, Pedro Pascal!
The trailer looks great! But time will tell if this one will surpass the legacy of the original classic. As long as it’s a good time though, I’ll be satisfied. And it looks like we’re definitely in for one hell of a ride!
